Coming Up
Free Summer Movies at Waterfront Park
Saturdays in August
Celebrating our 10th summer showing free outdoor movies at Waterfront Park, the Bainbridge Island Downtown Association presents four outstanding feature favorites this summer:
August 2 ~ Peter Pan (2003)
In stifling Edwardian London, Wendy Darling mesmerizes her brothers every night with bedtime tales of swordplay, swashbuckling and the fearsome Captain Hook. But the children become the heroes of an even greater story, when Peter Pan flies into their nursery one night and leads them over moonlit rooftops through a galaxy of stars and to the lush jungles of Neverland. Wendy and her brothers join Peter and the Lost Boys in an exhilarating life--free of grown-up rules--while also facing the inevitable showdown with Hook and his bloodthirsty pirates.
August 9 ~ Big
Tom Hanks plays Josh Baskin, a 12-year-old boy who has been transformed into a 35-year-old man by a carnival wishing machine. Now he must learn how to cope with the unfamiliar world of grown ups, including getting a job. Celebrate the 20th anniversary of this film favorite.
August 16 ~ The Birds
The residents of Bodega Bay are suddenly confronted with a malicious, full-scale attack by birds of all shapes and sizes. Hitchcock employed thousands of real birds and his own ingenuity to create this suspenseful adventure.
“It could be the most terrifying motion picture I have ever made!”
-Alfred Hitchcock
August 23 ~ Wizard of Oz
In what Newsday said is “The best children’s movie ever made,” Kansas girl Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland) and her dog, Toto, are whisked by a tornado into the magical land of Oz. This much loved musical adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s classic novel follows Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion on an adventure down the Yellow Brick Road to persuade the Wizard to help Dorothy find her way home.
