BIDA's Design Committee would like to recognize the hard work that goes into designing store window displays. Each month, starting in March and continuing throughout 2009, the Design Committee will be selecting an outstanding window display to recognize in News You Can Use. At the end of the year, the Design Committee will present the 'Best Window of 2009' award. Our March winner is Kennedy & Kate. Owner Sarah Wen has done a fantastic job of creating a fresh look in her new storefront and we love the bright, spring-is-just-around-the-corner vibe. Sarah has also planted beautiful flowers in the planters outside her store. It's bright and sunny at Kennedy & Kate...even when it's snowing outside!
The Bainbridge Island Tourism Alliance works together to generate positive, integrated, collaborative tourism promotion strategies that will benefit the general Bainbridge Island economy. Alliance partners include the Bainbridge Island Arts & Humanities Council, Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce, Bainbridge Island Downtown Association, and Bainbridge Island Lodging Association. In 2008, the Tourism Alliance, with the aid of consultants Marian Holt McLain and Fred Burrow, researched tourism trends on Bainbridge Island and began developing community connections and working towards consensus buidling in order to craft a twelve-month strategic plan for 2009, which can be viewed here. We have already started working towards implementation of the goals established in the 2009 plan and welcome your input.

Did you know that when we have a big snowfall like we did over the holidays, you are responsible for clearing the sidewalk outside your businesses? Pursuant to Chapter 12.08 of the Bainbridge Island Municipal Code, it is the duty of the person occupying the property abutting on the public sidewalk to keep that sidewalk free from snow and ice. The Code further provides that every person convicted of a violation of this requirement shall be punished by a fine of not more than $500, or by imprisonment for not more than six months, or by both such fine and imprisonment. Better keep those sidewalks clear!
